Pinoy chosen to sing theme song of DreamWorks' 'Kung Fu Panda'

Teenage pop star Sam Concepcion was chosen by American film studio DreamWorks to sing the theme song of its latest animated film, "Kung Fu Panda".

Concepcion will record the song "Kung Fu fighting" for the movie.

The actor-singer said he was delighted to hear the news from his manager, Carlo Orosa, and Film Distributor Selena de Venecia that he was chosen by Dreamworks to sing the theme song for the movie.


DreamWorks is the movie studio founded by acclaimed producer-director Steven Spielberg.

"With Universal Records, pinagawan po kami ng mga demos. So I made the demo, kinanta ko po and then we gave it to United International Pictures. Tapos they sent it to Dreamworks and the office of Steven Spielberg approved the song," said Concepcion.


His music video was taken in a Chinese temple in Malabon, Metro Manila and will be featured at the end of the movie, which will be shown in the Philippines this June.

His music recordings, meanwhile, will be included in the Asian International CD soundtrack of the movie. Korean superstar Rain is also featured in the same CD soundtrack.


"It really means a lot. It's really an honor to be the first local, Filipino artist to sing the theme song of a Dreamworks film, and it's really exciting for me and it's one of the biggest projects I will do for this year," he said.

Multimedia star Sam Concepcion recently bagged the 2008 MYX Music Awards" Favorite New Artist title. The 15-year old singer is the youngest recipient of the award, to-date, and a runaway winner garnering a majority of MYX viewers" votes in the said category.

"I am very happy to receive this award and I know I have to work harder. Thanks to the Samsters (Sam's fans), for their time and resources," declares Sam. Songs from his self-titled debut album continue to enjoy warm reception in MYX's daily countdown. His recent award gives a strong boost to his career as a STAGES/Star Magic talent, as Sam equally loves acting and singing on stage or on television.

Even if he is the youngest MYX Favorite New Artist, Sam has taken on some big responsibilities of his own. "Enchanting Teens Musical" at Enchanted Kingdom

Summer sizzles further at Enchanted Kingdom (EK) with the high-energy performances of today's hot teen idols Sam Concepcion, Cheska Ortega and PJ Valerio in "Enchanting Teens Musical," which goes on stage on May 17 and 24 at the Spaceport Zone.

What's more, park guests get the chance to take home a Sony PSP with the Pepsi Everyday Magic Promo at Enchanted Kingdom ‘til June 8.

"Enchanting Teens Musical," a one-hour show in concert format, promises a great entertainment fare for children and young adults. Expect kickin' live production numbers, love songs to swoon over, and a whole lot of interactive gimmicks from Sam, Cheska and PJ, and from some of the original members of the Manila production of "High School Musical On Stage."

"I’m very proud of her," he says. "She really has talent and she deserves to be recognized here and abroad. She’s really blessed by God."

Sam himself is going international as he was chosen to do the theme song of "Kung Fu Panda," the animated Hollywood summer movie directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne. HINDI pumayag ang UAP Philippines na hindi magkaroon ng Philippine version ang Kung Fu Panda theme song.
   
Sa June pa ang worldwide showing ng pinakabagong full animated feature ng Dreamworks na Kung Fu Panda released by UAP and Solar Films pero ngayon pa lang, simula na ng promotion.
   
Now, the theme song of the movie, a reworked of the seventies song Kung Fu Fighting will have an Asian version and it will be sung by South Korean superstar Rain na kilala rin dito dahil sa pagbibida niya noon sa Full House.
   
UAP Philippines like to have a Philippine version of the song kung kaya’t they contacted teenager Sam Concepcion na unang winner noon sa Little Big Star to do the recording.        
   
Happy to note that Sam’s version will be included pala sa Asian CD kasama ng version ni Rain. Sam will be promoting Kung Fu Panda nationwide and in both TV station dahil big promotion ang gagawin dito ng UAP and Solar.
   
Si Jack Black ang magbu-boses sa pinakabidang panda.

Sam, 1st Pinoy to sing for DreamWorks

Sam Concepcion has recorded his version of Kung Fu Fighting, included in the soundtrack album of the animated film, Kung Fu Panda. To be distributed within the Asian region, such feat makes the teen idol the first local artist to have sung for Hollywood film company, DreamWorks.
    
Apart from his appearance in the Kung Fu Panda album, Sam’s version of the movie’s theme song will be played during the end credits of the Philippine run.      United International Pictures and Universal Records also produced a music video for Sam. Mostly shot in a Chinese temple, it features snippets from Kung Fu Panda, and computer-generated animation made just for the music video.
   
“It is a rare occasion for a Hollywood movie to have a local artist sing in the soundtrack album. This is Sam’s first international recording break, and he truly deserves it,” said Selina de Venecia, UIP general manager.
   
Pop superstar Rain also recorded Kung Fu Fighting for DreamWorks in Korea.         On the other hand, R&B artist and song producer Ceelo Green recorded the same song for the U.S. release.
   
DreamWorks Animation SKG presents Kung Fu Panda, a Paramount Pictures release featuring the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Randall Duk Kim, James Hong, Michael Clarke Duncan and Dan Fogler.
   
It opens June 6 in local theaters.

TUWING nakikita namin si Sam Concepcion ay lalo si-yang gumaguwapo at tumatangkad.
   
Nang magkita kami ulit ni Sam nitong Martes ng ha-pon, nagulat kami nang malaman namin na he’s nearly 5’7” now at 15-year-old.
   
Hindi na kami nagtaka where he got his mestizo good looks kasi nakita namin ang father niya nang hapong ‘yun at artistahin din ang itsura nito.
   
What’s more, theater actor at commercial model pala ang dad niya kaya may pinagmanahan talaga siya. Pati lahat ng kapatid niya including his sister na Gaby Concepcion ang pangalan (short for Gabrielle) ay puro pala nasa teatro rin.
   
Isang malaking achievement at karangalan para kay Sam ang mapili ng Dreamworks (movie outfit ni Steven Spielberg) na kumunta at mag-record ng theme song ng Kung Fu Panda na Kung Fu Fighting which is originally a disco song back in the ‘70s.
   
Sa Asian release ng natu-rang movie sountrack CD ay kasama ang version ni Sam ng Kung Fu Fighting  pati na rin ‘yung version ni Rain na isang superstar sa Korea.
   
Sa Philippine release ng pelikula ay ‘yung version ni Sam ang maririnig sa closing credits ng movie.
   
May ginawa pang isang special MTV si Sam para rito na kinunan sa isang Chinese Temple sa Malabon.

Anak din ba ni Gabby Concepcion sina Valerie at Sam?

Tanong uli: Panganay ba sina Valerie at Sam among their siblings?

Kasi, it’s common knowledge na pawang mga panganay (na inaamin ni Gabby) ang mga anak ng comebacking actor, na nagkataong pawang babae rin.

Their names? KC (kay Sharon Cuneta, the megastar), Gaby (with Grace Ibuna) and Chloe (with Jenny Syquia).

Wow, kung nagkataon palang anak nga ni Gabby si Valerie, he would have been a lolo na to her three year-old daughter, Fiona.

Valerie is, of course, a Wowowee co-host. She starred with Vhong Navarro and Makisig Morales in Supah Papalicious.

Si Sam naman was the champ in the Big Division of the Little Big Star singing contest, aired on ABS-CBN nearly two years ago.

Malamang mauwi sa pag-aaway o 'di pagkakaunawaan ang pagkaka­ ibi­gan nina Sam Concepcion at PJ Valerio.

Muli kasing ipalalabas ang High School Musical na kung saan ay mag­kasama ang dalawa.

Sa mga lu­ma­labas na write ups at nagsisilbing pub­licity promo para sa nasabing palabas ay obvious na iniitsa-pwera si PJ na may mahalaga namang role sa High School Musical.

Halos lahat ng publicity ay nakasentro lamang kay Sam at sa leading lady ng palabas.

Meron na rin naman following si PJ na nagsisimula nang mag­reklamo. Sana naman sa halip na pag-awayin sina Sam at PJ ay tulungan na lang silang pareho.

It will be screened in the Philippines this June.  Dito sa Pilipinas, yung particular track na iyon na papatugtugin sa credits, si Sam ang kakanta.
