    Jed, nakatatlong gf na raw

    (ALLAN DIONES)

But you know, wala ka ring lusot minsan, eh! Once you’re in the business, they label you a lot of things na kesyo ganito ka, ganyan ka...

"And the more you react, lalo kang kakalkalin, eh! Kumbaga, what’s important is that I know who I am, I know my own preference, kaya ngayon, wala na, parang tinatawanan ko na lang!

    Thursday, July 12, 2007

“I’m not and I’m sure of that.  Matagal na nga pong nasasabing gay ako, pero, tsismis lang talaga.

“At first, sobrang affected ako, family ko, nagagalit at nagagalit na rin ako, pero nung naisip ko na walang mangyayari kung parati kong iisipin ang isyung hindi naman totoo, what’s the point. I’d rather concentrate na lang on my singing career, kikita pa ako at maraming tao pa akong mapapasaya,” paliwanag ng singer na may birthday concert sa July 14, Metro Concert Bar with Pooh at Franz Bonnin as his guests na may titulong Jed Madela… A Birthday Concert na line-produced ng katotong Ogie Diaz. – Reggee Bonoan

    Jedi Jed

In the singing arena, Jed Madela may be considered a Jedi of sorts. The muy simpatico Ilonggo can sing almost any song, and so he has earned the moniker “The Voice.”

Just like a Jedi, he has won every imaginable (singing) battle. President Arroyo has even awarded him with a plaque of distinction and honor for all the glory he has brought to the country.

Catch Jed in his birthday concert on Saturday, July 14, 8:30 p.m. at the Metro Concert Bar.

“I bought myself an iPhone for my birthday but I still can’t use it here,” Jed told me.

Too bad for him. On the bright side, at least his golden voice will be conserved for singing rather than making telebabad.

    Jed, hindi bakla!

    Alfie Lorenzo

"Bahala silang magsulat. Basta alam ko kung ano ako. Before medyo napipikon ako.

    Judging Jed Madela

    By Cora Lucas
    Inquirer

Last updated 10:12pm (Mla time) 07/12/2007

JED MADELA HAS BARELY RESTED FROM A just-concluded US concert tour and already, he’s back on the road.

For the second year since he won six golds in the World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA), Jed will form part of the competition’s panel of jurors, aside from rendering the opening and closing numbers. That will henceforth be a yearly stint for the 2005 WCOPA Champion of the World and Grand Champion of the World, who bested 3,000 contestants from 52 countries.

Jed has high hopes for this year’s batch of contestants from the Philippines, who showcased those extraneous vocal exertions during a fund-raising concert last month. “They are the chosen few, walang tapon,” says Jed, who will be leaving on the 27th for the July 28-Aug. 5 “Official Talent Olympics” for performers and entertainers.

As a juror, Jed believes the Filipinos stand a good chance of winning because, aside from having great voices, he says, they perform their songs in a way that moves audiences.

Meanwhile, Jed has been busy preparing for his Metro Bar concert tomorrow, his 28th birthday.

“It’s not a big production; it’s an intimate show,” the singer says of the concert produced for him by a group of fans. “I’ll be performing with Prime Council, the band I used to sing with before I went solo. There’ll be a request portion, dancing, jamming with the audience. I’ll also sing songs from my new album.”

Jed, whose range lends itself well to pop, jazz, R&B and even rock, dishes out smooth-cruising melodies in “Only Human,” his third and latest album (Universal Records). Released last May, it is a “personal album” for Jed, as he handpicked the materials.

    ‘Power ballads’

“The record company allowed me to choose the songs and sing them the way I wanted,” he says. He calls his kind of music “power ballads." He explains, "They’re easy listening songs with a touch of the intense. They start slow and explode in the end.”

There are 17 tracks, including a duet with Gary Valenciano (“Hard Habit to Break”) and another with Rachelle Ann Go (“Narito”). Also included is a stirring rendition of “The Impossible Dream,” which he sang during the opening of last year’s WCOPA.

He has since shared the stage with his idols Martin Nievera, Gary V, Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha and Sharon Cuneta. He considers the “Martin Nievera heir apparent” tag a compliment, although he doesn’t think anyone can match the “Concert King” as yet.

Jed equally reveres his favorite black singers, particularly the late American soul singer Luther Vandross. “He sings with such ease and power, with so much heart. He took ordinary songs like ‘Hello’ and made them sound intense.”

Having come from a band, he says, "I enjoy singing songs from different genres. I started out in a show band. We played everything. Sabi ko, ayoko talaga mag solo kasi masaya and banda. Naging comfort zone ko ’yung banda. When I performed alone, parang iba... natatakot [ako], ninenerbyos. But I realized I had to grow. Happy naman ako na ’yung banda ko, walang naging friction. Hanggang ngayon nandyan pa rin sila.”

Jed, a Business Administration graduate of San Agustin College in Iloilo City, recalls that his father tried to keep him away from a singing career. Once, he was ordered back to Iloilo when it was discovered that he was singing in a band and not working as a flight steward, as he claimed.

    All’s well

Ironically, he says he learned the basic techniques in music from his dad, who conducted a choir in San Agustin.
And at last all is well, now that he has scored his biggest hit.

While judging for the WCOPA, Jed says he will meet up with US agents. His victory in the competition opened doors for an international career, which he pub on hold due to previous commitments—specifically a record contract with his home studio and a deal to join ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime show “ASAP.”

Now, he says, “I have to go out and look for a bigger playground. The international scene? Why not?”

    Manila Bulletin Online

Jed Madela’s big birthday show tomorrow

Jed Madela’s reasons to have a birthday show at the Metro Comedy Bar along West Ave., Quezon City tomorrow, July 14, just got bigger and more inspired – because he now has an iPhone!

Though the acclaimed gadget that’s predicted to revolutionize the mobile phone industry the way the iPod did with portable music players would still be launched in Asia in 2008, Jed now is in possesssion of one. He may be one of the few celebrities who own such coveted Apple cellular phone.

Jed recalled that fans who went to him after every performance in California were taking photos of him using the iPhone. A self-confessed "gadget man," he said he was green with envy. He wanted to buy the iPhone but time didn’t permit him.

But then one of his shows’ producers asked him to go with him for a ride. They drove for an hour until they reached a store that sold gadgets. At the reception area, his producer pointed to a package which was for him. Lo and behold, it was an iPhone!

"This iPhone is a gift from my producers Framee and Jack Fernando; it was their first time to produce a show. They saw me perform in Hawaii and they told me that I have to perform in the Mainland so they came out with shows in three cities and it went very well. Siguro they felt so happy with the result so they gave me this iPhone," Jed proudly related.

Gadgets are Jed’s weakness. If there would be a Gadgets Anonymous club, he would definitely be a member. But Jed affirms that there’s nothing wrong with buying the latest and savy gadgets in town. These are his luxury and he takes good care of them. His past mobile phones (PDAs) are still intact and sheltered in his home. But he has given some of them to his siblings.

"I just bought this Samsung’s Ultra Music SGHF300 in Hong Kong. I immediately liked it when I saw it so I got it. But I still haven’t explored it yet," shared Jed who also owns a Nokia N95 for his traveling needs (because it has a GPS).

"My producers are very nice and down to earth people. They’re not really ‘producers.’ I’m just lucky to have met them because they also go out of their way to promote me in other concerts that they produce," he remarked.

His producers abroad are also like his producers here in the country, the LSBA Venture. He said that LSBA Ventures started out as fans who have always supported his endeavors. Soon they became friends and they’ve been producing shows for him ever since.

"This is the third concert that they’re producing. It’s more of a birthday show. It’s more of a birthday celebration. It’s getting together with the fans, close people and friends. Siyempre I owe this to my producers. It’s also a reunion with my band, Prime Council. When I left them, they went abroad for a while. Now they’re back too," explained Jed Madela.

Aptly entitled "Jed Madela: A Birthday Concert," he will have as special guests Pooh and France Bonnin.

"People can expect a lot of love songs especially songs they have gotten to know me for," quipped Jed who’s also singing songs from his latest album uder Universal Records.

Jed is currently in the processs of negotiations to do shows abroad particularly a repeat of his "Jed Madela Serenades’ US Tour." Though excited about the possibility of performing abroad again, he said that it’s not an easy decision to make. As a performer and recording artist, he also has other responsibilities here like in "ASAP 07," ABS–CBN’s Sunday TV-concert show.

"I’m a regular at ‘ASAP 07’ and if I do shows abroad I’ll be absent" one thing good about our show, like with Sir Deo and Ma’am Joyce, they’re open kung saan mag-flourish ang artists nila. Hindi nila kami tinatali as long as we ask for permission prior to our absences."

With Jed Madela back in town, he said he would be busy promoting his latest album entitled "Only Human" and would have a mall tour for it. He is happy that "Only Human" is nearing Gold status.

"I’m very happpy because this year is full of blessings. So this Saturday I’m going back to my roots as a band singer. It’s going to be intimate. Sayawan ito and there will be a request portion," he said.

    MST HOME

A birthday concert fit for a world champion

    By Isah V. Red
He’s no ordinary singer. He is a world champion, the first and only Filipino to win the Champion of the World (male) at the World Championships of Performing Arts, known in the performing circuit as the Voice Olympics, in 2005.

His colleagues in the business concede that Jed Madela is the singers’ singer. He is gifted with a powerful voice that can soar close to the eighth octave with very little effort. Now, that moniker The Voice is no fluke.

In the fickle world of show business, those who survive are simply armed with one weapon—talent. And Jed oozes with it. The various international awards bestowed upon him are testaments of his superb talent.

Jed won the silver prize at the 2003 Voice of Asia International Song Festival in Kazakhstan, he bagged the Best Voice of Asia Male Singer for 2002, given by the Mainhill Awards in the same global contest, and the Grand Champion plum as the people’s choice in the Internet Poll Survey. Celebrity Chronicle in Hollywood, USA named Jed as a Breakthrough Male Performer of the Year 2003.

Of course, who could ever forget Jed’s triumph at the 2005 World Championships of Performing Arts or Voice Olympics?

He won five golds and one silver in six divisions. He was declared Champion of the World in the male singing division. And Jed was proclaimed grand champion and overall winner, besting winners in the dance, acting, instrumental, and modeling divisions for which he received a trophy.

To top it all, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo awarded him the Plaque of Distinction and Honor for all the honor he brought home to our country.

Jed also received a gold record award for his duet with Karylle on the Fourth World Meeting of Families theme song, “Only Selfless Love.” He played the Asian male lead in the world renowned pop musical concert East Meets West.

Aside from invading the local airwave with hits like “Let Me Love You (From the Bottom of My Heart)” and “Laging Ikaw,” Jed is also the voice behind several commercial jingles.

Jed Madela’s singing prowess is simply amazing and you can watch him showcase this talent as he performs live on his birthday concert titled Jed Madela... A Birthday Concert tomorrow, 8:30 p.m. at the Metro Concert Bar. Together with guests Pooh and France Bonnin, Jed promises to treat his fans to a world-class performance with his repertoire of well-loved songs that only The Voice can render with distinction.

    Tickets at P500 each.

    For reservations, call (0917) 899-3154/(0920)9201966.

    Re: Jed Madela (OT)

Jed to WCOPA bets: Enjoy the moment
    By Jerry Donato
    Saturday, July 14, 2007

What makes a performer a performer? Ask Jed Madela, the power balladeer (he can do vocal calisthenics without missing a high note or gasping for breath).

His reply: “Enjoy the moment. Be confident. Own the stage. And show up for the performance.”

These are some pieces of advice Jed is sharing with the Philippine delegation to this year’s World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood. It includes Raki Vega, Reymond Sajor, Reuben Laurente and Jed’s cousin, Iago Raterta.

Raki, Reymond and Reuben will compete in the voice category, while Iago will participate in the modeling competition.

They better heed Jed’s advice. After all, he is the only Pinoy who can claim to have reached the talent Olympics’ finals and won it. Proofs are five golds, one silver, plus the Grand Champion and Overall Winner title.

“I think it’s easy for me to say enjoy lang. Huwag kayong kabahan at mag-panic,” says Jed. “But they have to show not just their talent and personality. They have to capture the judges’ attention for a good 60 seconds.”

In the forthcoming WCOPA, Jed will sit as  judge. He vows he will never compromise his credibility as a juror to assure our kababayan participants comfortable slots in the contest. Besides, organizers of the event will not ask him to judge in categories where the Philippines has entries.

What’s his expectation from the country’s contingent to the world’s talent competition?

“Very high,” replies Jed. He shares he is confident since some of the participants have shown what they are capable of as singers.

Raki was ABS-CBN’s Born Diva winner while Reymond was ABC 5’s Philippine Idol finalist.

Though it’s been two years since Jed joined the contest and wowed the world, he still remembers vividly the struggles he hurdled prior his winning.

“(The schedule and experience) was overwhelming,” recalls Jed. “I joined six categories at sunod- sunod. I met some foreigners and they had stereotypes about us. They thought Filipinos live in huts, that we walk barefoot and we don’t have malls. I immediately corrected them.

“They underestimated Rizza (Navales) and me. They never considered us threats. However, everything changed when we performed and won.”

His winning has granted Jed a budding career with a regular show ASAP ’07, and albums like Songs Rediscovered and Only Human, and concerts here and abroad.

Jed is bent on proving he is more than just a singing competition winner.

That’s why he takes good care of his voice and keeps on raising the bar.

“I don’t concentrate on one style or type of song,” shares Jed. “I cannot just do ballads, standards and covers. I’m well-rounded. This speaks a lot of where and how I started as an artist. I performed with a band where I sang different genres. I can even sing hip-hop.”

This is what Jed will show on his concert titled Jed Madela… A Birthday Concert tonight at 8:30 at Metro Concert Bar. (For details, call 0917-8993154 or 0920-9201966.) He will have Pooh and France Bonnin as special guests.

Jed finds his ability to sing practically all genres an edge and an advantage, especially since he performs songs far different from his image on ASAP ’07.

Many view this gift as Jed’s way of upstaging singers, which he denies.

“I have to give my best,” reasons out Jed. “We have a very limited time for the song.” You can’t blame or fault Jed for that because he is an intense performer like Martin Nievera, Lea Salonga, Lani Misalucha and Gary Valenciano.

Jed is happy showbiz watchers believe in him. They even tag him “Singer’s Singer” and “The Voice.”

“It’s just a style,” Jed’s quick reply when asked if his being always-in-character performance is intentional. “It’s an outlet for me to show my emotions — whether I’m happy or sad,” says Jed.

    By: Leo M. Bukas

    FOOTLOOSE

SINGER’S singer!

Tinanghal din  siyang Breakthrough Male Performer of the year 2003 ng Celebrity Chronicle sa Hollywood U.S.A.

World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) o Voice Olympics?

Siya ang idineklarang Champion of the World sa male singing division.

Gloria M. Arroyo ng Plaque of Distinction and Honor.

Kaya if you wanna hear him sing live, go na kayo sa concert niya sa Metro Bar. Ilan sa mga hits ni Jed sa kanyang Just Human album ang aawitin niya sa kanyang birthday concert, tulad ng And I Love You So, There’s No Easy Way, Forever, I Want to Give it All, Only Love, Hard Habit to Break (featuring Gary Valenciano), Narito (featuring Rachelle Ann Go), Tuyo Na’ng Damdamin, Iniibig Kita at marami pang iba.

A Birthday Concert.

For tickets reservation, tumawag lang sa 0917-8993154 and 0920-9201966.

Jed, flattered sa papuri ni Lea

    By: Vinia Vivar

“Naging guest niya kasi ako nu’ng last Valentine’s concert niya rito sa Manila, Cebu and Davao. Every time she would introduce me, she’d say, ‘this next guest, iwa-warn ko na kayo, hindi siya tao, kung may seatbelt diyan, mag-seatbelt kayo.’

“So, du’n na nag-start.

Itinanghal siyang Breakthrough Male Performer of the Year 2003 ng Celebrity Chronicle sa Hollywood, USA.

At sa 2005 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) o Voice Olympics, limang ginto at isang silver ang naiuwi ni Jed, plus idineklara rin siyang Champion of the World sa male singing division.

Ang ilan sa kanyang aawitin sa birthday show ay ang mga hit mula sa kanyang Just Human album, tulad ng And I Love You So, There’s No Easy Way at marami pang iba.

    Re: Jed Madela (OT)

On the segment where they gave tribute to this year's WCOPA winners, they had Rachelle Ann Go and Christian Bautista in the intro and they were the ones who did the production number with the winners. That spot rightfully belonged to Jed, anyone in their right mind would automatically think that since Jed won in that same competition, that he has to be a part of that tribute. He should have been included in the production number. His achievement in 2005 should have been mentioned when they made that introduction video but they did not even mention him.

We know that ASAP has done a lot for Jed too that's why we tried to ignore everything that they did wrong to Jed in the past. We've witnessed how other artists are treated way diffrently from the way they treat Jed but we never complained and they never heared from us. But this is the "ultimate mistake".... ASAP staff, please get your acts together and THINK HARD!

MANILA, Philippines—A lot of readers e-mailed me, saying they enjoyed reading the blogs of Zsa Zsa Padilla and Lea Salonga which I printed in previous columns.

To continue with our celebs’ blog “series,” here are some entries in Pauleen Luna’s and Jed Madela’s. Isn’t it a welcome change to get a glimpse of the stars’ thoughts, instead of being bombarded with crazy controversies about them?

A Filipino Thing (by Jed Madela)

“I notice that we Filipinos have a weird way of [starting] conversations with people whom we haven’t seen for some time.

“Normally, it goes like this: ‘Uuuuyy! Kumusta? Tumaba ka ah...’ Or, ‘Uuuuy... payat natin ngayon ah...’

“What’s with the weight-related opening remark?

“I experienced that today. Which greeting? Both! In one day? How can I have gone from fat to slim in a matter of hours? Whoa! I guess it’s just a Filipino thing. Sometimes, we don’t know what to talk about.

“A simple ‘Hi, how’ve you been?’ would do. Pero... ‘Uuuyy! Tumaba ka!’
“What if I answer, ‘Ikaw nga dyan eh...’ Nyahaha!

MANILA, Philippines--My five-month-old pet Basti is a typical beagle—he loves to play and run around the house. When he’s hungry or needs something, he gets his squeaky toy and makes a lot of noise. He won’t stop until someone minds him. What a brat, huh? But he’s really malambing. After work, I go straight to his kennel. When he sees me, he jumps with excitement. That makes my exhaustion disappear. He eats anything, even fruits. He loves apples. I give him vitamins every day and, after his meals, we brush his teeth. Apart from Basti (who lives with me), I have four other dogs (who live with my aunt): a pug named Max, a mini pinscher named Lana and her two pups Diego and Carlos. Early this week, Lana gave birth to one male and two female puppies.
