Sam Concepcion, youth role model, visits 50 schools; stars in ‘SRR9’
Crispina Martinez-Belen
Sam Concepcion, popular youth role model, and who stars in Regal Entertainment’s 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Shake, Rattle & Roll 9," is currently on a campus tour. The young singing heartthrob was cited recently as the Department of Education’s (DepEd) newest spokesperson, and so has embarked on a nationwide campus tour dubbed "SAMa-SAMa sa Eskwela with SAM Concepcion." Sam is set to visit 50 schools to promote DepEd’s current programs that aim to instill in the youth love of self, family and country; moral and spiritual regeneration; and empowerment through education. Sam’s campus tour kicked off at Santolan High School and Ramon Magsaysay Cubao campus on Dec. 5; Roxas High School and Makati High School on Dec, 7; and he will be at Caloocan High School and Malabon National High School today, Dec. 10. The rest of his visits will resume in January 2008. Sam will perform songs from his self-titled debut album, which includes hits "Even If" and "Happy," in his school tour. Having joined many government campaigns like "Go Negosyo," and "Anti-Smoking Campaign of the World Health Organization," Dep Ed National Director Joey Pelaez is amazed at Sam’s drawing power among the youth. "It’s like Rico Yan fever all over again. Everywhere we go from Cagayan de Oro to Cebu, Davao and Pampanga, Sam has never failed to draw massive crowds. The response to this young man has been overwhelming. In fact, assurance of tight security is top priority everywhere he goes, says Joey. "Sam is an effective spokesperson having led countless oath takings encouraging the youth to be morally upright, say no to drugs, and commit to stay in school. We are proud to have him do this for the government," Joey adds. Apart from his duties with Dep Ed, Sam does hosting chores in Studio 23’s award-winning youth program "YSpeak." "SAMa, SAMa sa Eskwela with SAM Concepcion" is supported by PLDT, SMART Foundation and STAGES, in cooperation with Rep. Roman T. Romulo, Universal Records, Bench, Karate Kid, Elijah Dental, Skechers, Trumpets, Kiseki, and Monami Writing Instruments. Sam is a STAGES-managed artist, together with Christian Bautista, Reymond Sajor, Aria Clemente. In "Shake, Rattle and Roll 9," Sam joins Katrina Halili, Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, Mart Escudero, Jewel Mische, and Felix Roco in the episode entitled "Engkanto," directed by Topel Lee. The only horror film entry to this year’s MMFF, "SRR 9" has two other episodes: "Bangungot," starring Dennis Trillo, Pauleen Luna and Roxanne Guinoo and directed by Mike Tuviera; and "Christmas Tree," starring John Prats, Lovi Poe, Gina Alajar, Nash Aguas, John Lapus, Sophia Baars, Boots Anson-Roa and Tonton Gutierrez under the direction of Paul Daza. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR20071210111142.html

STAGES-managed talents Christian Bautista, Sam Concepcion, Aria Clemente, and Cheska Ortega are looking forward to a hectic 2008 with new recordings, live concerts in the Philippines and abroad, stage musicals, and television shows. Christian Bautista, Consumers Choice Awards’ 2007 Top Star Entertainer, ushers into the New Year with a major Valentine’s concert with fellow singing champions Erik Santos, Sarah Geronimo, and Rachelle Ann Go at the Araneta Coliseum on February 13. Produced by "ASAP Live" and Viva Records, the concert billed "All 4 Luv" is set to tour the United States and Canada. Christian is currently selecting materials for his fourth album under Warner Music Philippines. Christian’s live album, "Christian Bautista Live! Just a Love Song," is closely approaching the Double Platinum mark especially after the release of the repackaged Christmas edition of the album containing his remake of Gary Valenciano-original "Pasko na Sinta Ko." "The Christian Bautista Show," a musical talk show set to go on air on Makisig Network, will showcase the hosting abilities of the balladeer and multi-brand endorser. Christian will also return to his musical theater roots when Stages’ major production of Broadway’s beloved musical "West Side Story" raises its curtain at Meralco Theater by the third quarter of 2008. Sam Concepcion, who is last seen in Regal Films’ "Shake, Rattle and Roll 9" at the Metro Manila Film Festival, continues to wear his new hat as the Department of Education’s youth spokesperson. His team will visit more schools in Metro Manila and the provinces including Siena College Quezon City (January 18), Rizal High School and Pinagbuhatan High School (January 21), San Joaquin High School and Eusebio High School (January 23), and Sagad High School and Manggahan High School (January 25). Sam’s debut album has been doing really well not only in the Philippines but internationally. His carrier single, "Even If," made it to No. 1 spot on MegaMixx 101.9 FM, KTKB, in Guam on the first week of January. Sam is poised at shooting another music video for this third single from his self-titled debut album under Universal Records. World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) Hollywood Hall of Fame title holder, 12-year-old Aria Clemente is working on her debut album tied up with Star Records. Her music video, "Climb Every Mountain" from Kris Aquino’s compilation album "Love and Inspiration," will soon premiere on MYX channel. Aria joins fellow WCOPA winners Raki Vega and Reymond Sajor and directors Carlo Orosa and Oliver Oliveros in touring the Philippines to audition talented Filipinos for 2008 WCOPA Team Philippines. Aria, whose sweet singing voice was featured as the young Lea Salonga in the new Enfakid TV commercial, will also star in afternoon soap operas on ABS- CBN. Sam and Aria will perform as special guests of Christian Bautista in a concert at Albay Astrodome in Legazpi City on February 16. Teen heartthrob, multi-faceted talent
Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Sam Concepcion's multi-faceted talent comfortably makes him much more than a mere teen heartthrob. He'll be turning 16 years old this October and yet he has already achieved so much as a singer, dancer, host and an actor. In fact, his formidable resumé will make even veteran artists green with envy. As he begins another interesting phase of his showbiz career, debuting as a solo recording artist with his eponymous album from Universal Records; Sam Concepcion is solidly backed by works that only artists with genuine talents would be able to achieve. As a stage actor, Sam's credits include "Sino Ka Ba, Jose Ricali" (2002) as the young National Hero, "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2002), "Song of Mulan" as the Little Lion and narrator (2003) and the most recent, "High School Musical" for which he has been receiving critical acclaim. Sam Concepcion is also a champion (Brightest Star) in the first season of ABS-CBN's "Little Big Star" hosted by Sarah Geronimo. In a World Travel Fair staged in Korea, Sam bagged the Best Folklore Performance Award along with the Playshop Kids (2006). In last year's Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards, Sam is the Pinoy Wannabe winner. He is also Candy magazine's No. 1 Celeb Cutie for 2006. Sam played the lead character in "Miko" which received the Best Film trophy in the Bogen Imaging Film and Video Shorts Festival in New York last June 2006. Known as the Singing Crush ng Bayan on "Little Big Star," Sam was also voted My Favorite Star for garnering the most number of text votes. Among today's crop of young stars, Sam's fans (collectively known as Samsters) are said to have numbered more than a hundred thousand already. His admirers come from all over the country, making him win in all popularity tilts that he joins. Now Sam Concepcion's ever-growing following is rejoicing the release of his self-titled album from Universal Records. The CD, with free full-color postcards and a poster inside the package, has been enjoying brisk sales even before it has been promoted. With "Even If" as carrier single, the "Sam Concepcion" album contains 11 carefully selected songs which the artist performs with youthful effervescence and the sincerest sentiments. His rendition of Michael Jackson's "Happy" would easily be everybody's favorite. There's also the upbeat and updated "Da Doo Ron Ron" which could be a dance party staple. Sam further conveys the pain of growing up in songs like "Hanggang Tingin" and "Stay The Same." If you suspect that romantic ditties would not be proper for the wholesome Sam, listen to "Walang Hanggan," "Kay Dali," "Paano Na," and "Wishing You'll Be Mine." Is he old to be a child and too young to be a man? Find the answers in the "Sam Concepcion" album. http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Entertainment&p=52&type=2&sec=126&aid=20080204183

Sam Concepcion Challenges Over 100,000 Students To Excel In School By STAGES February 11, 2008
For the past three months, multimedia tween star and Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson for the youth Sam Concepcion has been inspiring young Filipino high school students in his "SAMa-SAMa sa Eskwela" nationwide school tour. Sam, who was named DepEd's ambassador for the youth last year, has visited a total of around 30 schools, and over 100,000 students so far. The tour aims to visit 50 private and public schools by March, and has been to various points in the country like Pampanga, Laguna, Cebu City, Cagayan De Oro City, and Davao City. "I am really enjoying it," admits Sam. "I feel so privileged that I get this rare chance to remind, and inspire my fellow youth to not neglect their studies, and their dreams." In "SAMa-SAMa sa Eskwela," Sam holds a mini-concert *** dialogue with the students that lasts for about an hour. The program highlights the importance of literacy, English proficiency, finding one's talent, and excelling in school. In the mini-concert, Sam dishes out some of the memorable cuts from his self-titled album from Universal Records like "Even If," which is currently topping the charts for over three weeks now in Megamixx 101.9 FM, a radio station in Guam, and his latest single "Happy." He also performs songs from “High School Musical On Stage,” which Sam performed in the hit musical, like "Breaking Free" and "We're All In This Together." Interestingly, Sam sings these popular duets with a female student singer from every school he pays a visit. Before the end of the program, Sam leads the whole studentry into reciting the "Pledge of Commitment" that states that the participants will do their best to respond to the challenges posed by the school tour. "DepEd chose a good spokesperson in Sam," says Maia Azores of Canossa College, San Pablo, Laguna. "He is eloquent, energetic, and charming. Students really listen to him." Sam’s next stops will be at Concepcion Integrated School and Marikina High School on Feb. 18; Tanong High School and Sta. Elena High School on Feb. 20; Parang High School and Marikina High School on Feb. 22; and Concepcion High School and Marikina Heights National High School on Feb. 27. Sam is currently attending the home school program of Alpha-Omega International Academy. He is in grade 9. Aside from the school tour and the promotion of his album, Sam has his hands full with MTV Music Revolution, a 30-minute weekly TV program that allows viewers to be updated with the current music trends in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. “SAMa, SAMa sa Eskwela” has been supported by PLDT SMART Foundation, and STAGES, in cooperation with Rep. Roman T. Romulo, Universal Records, Bench, Karate Kid, Elijah Dental, Skechers, Trumpets, Kiseki, and Monami Writing Instruments.
