Louie O. reconciles with Joey Albert Most of my friends from the 80’s generation, were tickled pink when we told them about the next "musical event" that will happen in the local concert scene next month. Former sweethearts Louie Ocampo and Joey Albert will be reconciling (on the concert stage only silly!) on Aug. 3 and 4 when their reunion concert takes centerstage at the Music Museum. A production of Artist House, Inc. Joey Albert and Louie Ocampo reunites after more than 20 years in the concert billed "Tell Me...Once More." The Music Museum leg will serve as a kick off point for the concert series/tour that will tour the US and Canada next year. We an almost picture them collaborating on the now classic pop songs "Tell Me," "Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin," "Points of View," among many others. The show will be written and directed by Freddie Santos. For ticket inquiry, please call Artist House at 817-4660 or 8162496 or the Music Museum at 721-0635, 7216726, or Ticketworld at 891-9999. http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR2007071497739.html

Well-loved music tandem reunites
THE well-loved musical tandem of the ‘80s generation who has brought us unforgettable classics like "Tell Me," "Yakapin Mo," "Points of View," among many other collaborations, are back to bring their music back into the play list of our hearts. Musical director-arranger-composer par excellence Louie Ocampo teams up once again with international singer Joey Albert in a two-night concert billed "Tell Me…Once More" on August 3 and 4 at the Music Museum. It is a musical event that will guarantee the blossoming of love as their music brings back memories of romantic yesterday. As most are likely to be tickled pink with "Tell Me…Once More" remembering that indeed, Louie and Joey played a huge part in playing the soundtrack of their romantic lives, the two premier artists that the local music scene has produced, confessed to being both excited and nervous about the concert. It has been more than 20 years since Joey Albert and Louie Ocampo performed together in a show and the excitement towards what’s to come in this concert reunion of sorts, lends the absolute thrill in finding it out. A production of Artist House, Inc. "Tell Me….Once More" serves as the kick off point for the concert series that will tour the US and Canada next year. For tickets, call Artist House at 817-4660 or 816-2496, Music Museum at 721-0635, 721-6726, or Ticketworld at 891-9999. http://www.malaya.com.ph/jul21/ente2.htm

By: Mario E. Bautista FREEHAND JOEY, LOUIE REUNITE TO BUILD HOUSES JOEY Albert is currently in town for her concert, “Tell Me... Once More,” with ex-bf Louie Ocampo at the Music Museum to be held on August 3 and 4. They were on for four years and together, they gave us unforgettable hits like “Tell Me” (now used as the theme song of “A Love Story”), “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” “Points of View,” “Yakapin Mo Ako” and others. They broke up exactly 20 years ago, in 1987. Joey married Ting Pacis in 1988 and they now have two daughters, Trixie, 17, and Margarita, 14. Louie married wife Jojo in 1990 and now they have three kids: Roberta, 13; Isabella, 9; and Quito, 5. Why did they split?
“I can’t remember na what happened,” says Joey. “Basta si Louie, sobrang seloso at conservative. Magsuot lang ako ng labas ang tiyan, nagagalit na.”
“Siguro we just both felt we have to move on,” says Louie. “What’s important is we’re together again now doing a show.”
How did their new show come about? “I’m supposed to have this in the U.S. with the proceeds going to Gawad Kalinga to build houses for the poor in Negros Occidental,” says Joey. “Mr. Tony Meloto of GK suggested na kaming dalawa ni Louie ang magsama. So I called him up and that’s how the project was born. Dito na kami magsisimula sa Manila then bring the show to the U.S. in November.”
“I was really caught by surprise when Joey called up,” says Louie. “Kasi ang tagal na naming walang communication. But I accepted her offer right away as I want today’s generation to listen to our music again.”
They’ll be playing all their past hits plus more romantic songs, like a Burt Bacharach medley. For tickets, call Artist House at 817-4660 or Music Museum at 721-0635 or Ticketworld at 891-9999. People's Journal http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2007-07-22&sec=3&aid=25415

Ha! Ha! Ha!" natatawang pahayag ni Joey. After 20 years, heto nga at muling iparirinig nina Joey at Louie ang mga pinasikat nilang kanta noon.

Joey and Louie show: Just like old times
By Bayani San Diego Jr. Inquirer Last updated 00:31am (Mla time) 07/23/2007 MANILA, Philippines -- Hers was the voice behind his big hit “Tell Me.” Long before Ogie-Regine, there was the Joey Albert-Louie Ocampo singer-composer tandem that spelled gold in the local music biz, circa 1980s. Fast forward to 2007: They are reuniting—onstage at least. Albert, who’s now a preschool teacher in Canada, is in Manila for a show with Ocampo, “Tell Me Once More” set on Aug. 3 and 4 at the Music Museum. The way Albert remembers it: “The whole idea started when I asked Louie to do shows [set in November] in the United States, to help raise money for the Gawad Kalinga village assigned to me.” The last time they worked together was 20 years ago, she looks back. “Working with Louie was both fun and productive. We enjoyed the creative process.” The first time she met him in 1983, “he was wearing blue jeans, a white cotton shirt and red shoes.” “I just arrived from the US [Berklee music school]. That was my punk stage,” Ocampo clarifies. “She was in pambahay (house clothes) because I had a meeting in their home with her sister Marissa who was a talent manager then.” She surmises that their common love for music made their partnership click. “I worked as her musical director for four years,” he agrees. “We can understand each other even without talking. Senyasan na lang onstage. [We just use sign language onstage.]” Among their collaborations, she singles out “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin” as her favorite. “Among the songs he didn’t write for me? ‘Say That You Love Me’ [by Basil Valdez].” Ocampo’s choice is “Tell Me.” “It was our first hit together.” She says that she’s looking forward to their Manila concerts. “It’s a little strange,” she owns up. “I don’t really know what to expect. But the prospect is exciting, of course.” Her only expectation? “I just hope to have fun. Just like old times.” Indeed, a lot has changed since their last collaboration. They are now married, but not to each other. She is mom to two girls; he is dad to three girls and a boy. Musically, they’ve also evolved. “I still love singing ballads,” she explains. “But I think my voice has changed a bit since I’ve been exposed to various styles abroad.” She opines that Ocampo’s music has remained basically unchanged. “It’s as cinematic and passionate as it has always been.” Ocampo says Albert has matured “but remained the same.” On top of school and home chores, Albert also finds time for her advocacy work. “I do shows for Gawad Kalinga in the US and Canada,” she relates. “I recently produced a Philippine Cultural Night at the Chan Center for Performing Arts. It involved different Filipino artists based in Vancouver: classical pianist Dorothy Uytengsu, Dimasalang painters, couturier Manuel Mendoza. I also support the Philippine Consulate in their efforts to promote the dual citizenship program and overseas voting.” For this visit, Albert will be in Manila for three weeks. “I don’t miss traffic and inefficiency, but I miss my family, friends and the warmth of Filipinos the most,” she says. http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view_article.php?article_id=78148

PROMISE ni Louie Ocampo, he will write a song for Joey Albert. In their four year relationship both as couple and as singer-composer, wala palang ginawang kanta si Louie kay Joey specifically for her. Kaya nga nakakatuwa ang pagkikitang muli ng dalawa after 20 years dahil naglolokohan sila na walang sinulat si Louie for Joey kaya nag-promise si Louie na after their two night Music Museum concert on August 3 and 4 na Tell Me… Once More from Artist House, Louie will sit down to write a song for her ex. Baka nga raw ang maging titulo, Tell Me… Once More. People's Taliba http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2007-07-23&sec=3&aid=25456

Ex-sweethearts Joey & Louie reunite for charity
TOGETHER again sina Joey Albert at Louie Ocampo. Billed “Tell Me…Once More,” kasama sa repertoire ni Joey ang mga unforgettable classic compositions ni Louie like “Tell Me,” “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin,” “Yakapin Mo Ako,” “Points of View,” among others. Kadarating lang ni Joey from Vancouver, Canada last July 19 at kinabukasan (July 20), after several years since they broke up, first time silang nagkita ni Louie sa ginanap na presscon for their forthcoming 2-night show. Joey is married to a businessman, blessed with two daughters, aged 17 and 14 while Louie has four kids (14, 13, 9 & 5 years old) with his non-showbiz wife. Based in Canada ang family ni Joey at bumalik lang siya sa Pilipinas para sa gaganaping show with Louie. She’s going back to Canada on Aug. 11. She wants to raise money to build houses in Negros Occidental. That was in 1987. Wala raw third party kundi hindi talaga nag-work out ang kanilang 4-year relationship. Joey got married in 1988 at 1990 naman nag-asawa si Louie. "We’re not really meant for each other. What’s important, we’re together now doing a show. We’ve both moved on and we’re both happily married," said Louie. (Rowena Agilada) http://www.tempo.com.ph/news.php?aid=31771

Joey Albert and Louie Ocampo: Reunited and feeling good about it
By KAYE VILLAGOMEZ
Old flame will be rekindled, musically that is, for former sweethearts Louie Ocampo and Joey Albert as they reunite on stage 20 years since they broke up via "Tell Me... Once More" at the Music Museum on Aug. 3 and 4. History has a way of repeating itself when Joey Albert called Louie and spoke to him for the first time since they ended a four–year relationship in 1987. Although both parties have moved on (having been happily married to their respective partners and enjoying peaceful family lives), neither found the courage for spoken closure until a few weeks ago. Joey, who is now actively supporting Gawad Kalinga even if she lives in Canada opened to the Manila Bulletin "I have been wanting to call him and ask if we could perform together for a project for Gawad Kalinga." But neither Joey or Louie had a clue that the call will engender a clamor for them to stage a major concert in Manila because the show was intended for US staging. "It all came easy when Louie said yes to the idea," Joey added, then Louie reacted, "I was caught up by surprise because we haven’t been speaking to each other [in 20 years] and the last time we saw each other was about three or four years ago in a concert of Martin Nievera but we did not speak to other then." When the idea of reuniting on stage hit Manila—and the word hit here meant hearing once again songs like "Tell Me" and "Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin" in original full swing—people started pushing the two to do the show here in the country first. "So here we are," they both said. They had no choice but to gravitate toward each other. When asked what about each other they couldn’t forget. Joey said, "He’s super seloso but he’s very compassionate" while Louie countered, "She’s kikay kasi but very cariñosa." WHAT WENT WRONG, WHAT WENT RIGHT Like a missing music chapter, Louie and Joey finally disclosed to the media the reason why they separated was growing out of the relationship. "It was more of the music that started everything in the first place," Louie recalled. "We were together every day exchanging ideas and working well so it really was the love for music that started it all. Well, we’ve both moved on now, she’s happy and I am happy and that’s what’s important." What Louie was surprised about was how the fans and the media remembered his and Joey’s chapter. "You see, I’m not a celebrity. I’m just the guy playing the piano so I never thought the people really remembered and regarded us as a celebrity couple." On the contrary, the public’s reaction and reception of a Joey-Louie partnership was nothing short than that of a Martin-and-Pops or Regine-and-Ariel type of reunion show. Even the press people lavishly indulged in the guilty pleasure of uncovering and recalling how well-loved the tandem had been in the 80s. If there’s one claim Louie admitted is that "We are like the original ‘Music and Lyrics’ pair of Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant because we were like that and it’s that same love for music that reunited us for this show." Louie said it was never about the relationship because "we were never meant to be and it all ended up with both of us hurting." To which Joey said, "And people don’t realize that hurting goes both ways, the one who left is hurting as the one left behind." Timeline stated that Joey and Louie broke up in 1987 then Joey married in 1988. Louie also married two years later in 1990. In 1995, Louie appeared on Joey’s farewell show but still, no words were traded between them. "That time when I was quitting and doing a farewell show, I thought what would my farewell show be like without Louie there? So he was invited and the moment he entered that stage, everybody stood up and cheered and I realized how people loved our partnership and the impact we have created." Louie stressed their contribution to the industry was not that they were an item before "but the gift of music that people have appreciated." With this, the repertoire for "Tell Me...Once More" is set. Filled with that certain pleasure of a blast–from–the–past nostalgia, the tandem that produced the anthemic "Tell Me," will produce Louie and Joey’s hits together and their hits with other artists. Song like "Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin," "Points Of View" and "Yakapin Mo Ako" are expected to lead past to present during the show. Joey’s hits such as "Million Miles Away" will also be performed. On top of the musical thrill that will engulf Music Museum early August, Louie arranged special songs for this special occasion. But however the arrangements will be, it’s the songs that are bound to create and bring back emotions from an expecting audience come concert night. Like Joey said, "Louie’s music is cinematic and romantic" that one song is already the equivalent of an entire movie plot ready to bring emotions to the fore. Summing it up, Louie shared, "What’s great about this show is that we’re able to relive the music we produced, which I think is such a huge gift for OPM." Joey augmented, "And in a time when I am active with Gawad Kalinga and Louie’s parents have long been supporting the same cause, it’s like putting a deeper meaning to the partnership because we never knew it would still be of purpose to this day." http://www.mb.com.ph/archive_pages.php?url=http://www.mb.com.ph/issues/2007/07/26/ENTR2007072698313.html

The much-awaited reunion concert of Joey Albert and Louie Ocampo happens tonight and tomorrow at the Music Museum. Joey Albert revives ‘Tell Me’ for ‘A Love Story’
By YUGEL LOSORATA
Eighties hitmaker Joey Albert found it strange to be recording "Tell Me," the anthem of the brokenhearted, after more than two decades. "It’s strange but at the same time I discovered there was still more to the song than when I recorded it 20 years ago." The classic cathartic ballad that transcended generations and generations was selected by Star Cinema to be the theme song of its new movie "A Love Story" starring Aga Muhlach and Maricel Soriano. Joey thinks it’s a reunion of sorts to be singing the same song for a movie topbilled by the said actors. "Aga and Maricel also started in the 80s kaya it’s really a reunion movie of some kind. I really thank Star Cinema for having thought of the song and for me to sing it again." During the recording of "Tell Me," Joey was asked by the producers to sing the song like how it had been sung in the original record. "I told them, it’s difficult because that was such a long time ago and my voice is different now," she said. "Tell Me" was a song Louie Ocampo wrote for his ex-girlfriend. "We were friends back then when we were starting. I was with a boyfriend and Louie had a girlfriend. We were brokenhearted separately and I remember the first time he let me hear the song and played on the piano, I said to him, ‘Ibigay mo na lang sa’kin ang kanta na’to,’ because it was so beautiful and I was experiencing the same thing with what happened to me and my ex. ‘Tell Me’ would soon be included in my first LP and when it was released, it became a huge success." The 47-year-old singer recalled that "Tell Me" was her biggest hit but songs like "I Remember The Boy," "Yakapin Mo Ako." "Iisa Pa Lamang," "Million Miles Away," and "It’s Over Now" were chart-toppers as well when they were released. In fact, Joey had the most hits compared with her contemporaries back in the 80s like Pops Fernandez, Jam Morales and even Zsa Zsa Padilla. "The people from Star Cinema didn’t even know that I was going to Manila for a concert when they called me. They had no idea that I will be here. Everything just fell into place which is why I know for a fact that there’s that Hand that works for us all." "Tell Me," the music video for the movie, was also shot with Joey and clips from the movie. "I knew the plot and where the characters of Aga, Maricel and Angelica Panganiban were coming from so I believe I sang a more mature version of ‘Tell Me.’ It’s a version that has experienced so much since it was first recorded," she shared. Joey is now active with Gawad Kalinga and is a licensed pre-school teacher in Canada. She is in the Philippines for a series of shows with ex–sweetheart Louie Ocampo. By the way, a repeat of "Tell Me... Once More" on Aug. 10 will happen at the Music Museum. Joey and Louie’s two-night benefit concert for Gawad Kalinga were both sold-out occasions. * * * Will Albert and Liezl Martinez be lucky tonight on ‘Deal or No Deal?’ Last Monday night, "Kapamilya: Deal or No Deal" gave away its biggest prize of the season, P2 million, to contestant Allen Paul Mencias Aguada. Tonight, it will be Albert and Liezl Martinez’s turn to try their luck in "KDOND." Will they turn out as lucky as Allen? Allen came over from Chicago where he worked at the Guest Relations Department of a hospital after graduating from Kendall College, to try his luck in professional basketball. Instead, he got luck in "Kapamilya: Deal or No Deal." He was very lucky indeed, because his father texted the show only once and he was picked to be the contestant last Aug. 6. Allen got intrigued by the game show when he saw how intense his Mom gets when watching "DOND." At first he was skeptical about it, but later on he found himself enjoying it too so it became a habit. On being a studio contestant he said: "At first I was so nervous. I didn’t know what to expect. Plus I was going to meet Kris Aquino. Wow!!! I was really hoping that I won’t faint." The most unforgettable part of the game for Allen was when the excitement in the studio was so intense that Banker got out of his seat and kept pacing worriedly along the catwalk. This was when he realized that "it was getting crazy, though in a good sense." On winning P2 M: "Words can’t explain talaga what I felt when I won the P2 M. I just cried! The feeling was surreal. I guess God just blessed me." Allen plans to share his winnings with his grandmother and other relatives in Alcala, Pangasinan because this was the promise he made to God when he joined the game show. As for the rest of the amount, he will save it for his future. His message to those aspiring to join "KDOND" to make their dreams come true is: "Just believe and trust the Lord. Don’t forget to pray wholeheartedly. The entire process of the screening is just the first part of the journey so be patient if you don’t get in during your first try. Just keep on trying!" "KDOND" now has increased its top prize to P3 million and introduced a new text promo that will give home viewers the chance of winning up to P1.5 million every night. " KDOND" gives viewers the deal of a lifetime that can help change their fortune and improve their lives. This is in line with ABS-CBN’s corporate mission to be in the service of the Filipinos. Together for 22 years now, will Albert and Liezl pick briefcase No. 22? The couple can be called risk takers. They eloped when they were young, went to the US where they endured hardships, and worked hard to succeed. On being in the game show, Albert said "we came here to play and have a great time. We are not after the money." But if they win, they will donate their prize to Gabay Guro Foundation.

Taong 1984 nang sumikat ang awiting Tell Me ni Joey Albert na naging biggest hit of her entire career. Ngayong 2007 (o 23 years later) ay muli itong ni-record ni Joey bilang theme song ng pelikulang A Love Story ng Star Cinema. "I’m very thankful that Star Cinema chose the song. It makes me feel proud as an artist," masayang bulalas ni Joey nang makausap namin siya last weekend sa Pasto resto sa Greenhills. "It’s funny na 23 years later, I recorded the song again for a movie. They asked me to keep it as close to the original. I said, how can that be when I was only 23 years old at that time? Ha! Ha! Ha! "So, this is a more mature, well lived, well-experienced Tell Me," nakangiting sabi ni Joey (Josefina Albert-Pacis sa totoong buhay), na hindi pa rin nagbabago ang itsura at hindi mukhang 47-anyos. "He was heartbroken at that time when he first made me listen to the song at may iba rin akong boyfriend. Eventually, I got heartbroken also and because we were so close then and we were always doing shows together, naging kami. "Nobody thought Tell Me would be a big hit. It was not even the carrier single of my first album, second choice lang siya. "But it’s a song that has transcended decades and generations because Tell Me is a love story experienced by everyone at least once in their lives."

STUDIO WHISPERS Ethel Ramos
“Louie and I have remained good friends to date. We are both happily married now.” – Joey Albert Ex-sweethearts still make beautiful music
Chances are there’s a story behind every song, on how it was written and finally set to music. Just like the song "Tell Me," one of songster Joey Albert’s biggest hits. "Tell Me" was composed by Joey’s former boyfriend, top musical director and composer, Louie Ocampo, composed. They were sweethearts for four years. "Contrary to most everyone’s belief, I’m not the woman Louie had in mind when he wrote and composed that song," Joey laughingly revealed. "When we met, he had just arrived from Berklee, after finishing a degree in music. He got my sister, Marissa (Albert), for his talent manager. She happened to be my talent manager, too. "That time, he was suffering from a broken heart because he had just broken up with his sweetheart. Ako naman, I was in love with someone else. "One day, he made me listen to his piano rendition of ‘Tell Me.’ He said he composed it for his girlfriend. "I liked the song right away. As I was doing my first album with OctoArts Records then, sabi ko sa kanya, ako na lang ang kakanta. "He immediately said yes." Both of them never thought "Tell Me" would make history in the recording world. It was not even her album’s carrier single. "Hanggang ngayon, tuwing naririnig ko ang awiting ‘Tell Me’ being played on radio, or kinakanta ng isang kapuwa ko singer either on TV or at a concert, natutuwa ako. It’s even more heartwarming when a non-singer sings it. I heard it’s a favorite song among karaoke enthusiasts," she enthused. "Tell Me" is the theme song of the soon-to-be released 14th anniversary offering of Star Cinema, "A Love Story," starring three of the country’s most phenomenal stars, Maricel Soriano, Angelica Panganiban and Aga Muhlach. Director is Maryo de los Reyes. "When I was offered by Star Cinema to sing ‘Tell Me’ as the movie’s theme song, I was not only excited, but I also felt so honored," she said. Joey is in town for a couple of shows with Louie Ocampo at the Music Museum. Their shows were very successful, that they will stage another performance on Friday, the day before Joey leaves for Canada. The proceeds of the concerts will go to the building 60 houses in Negros Occidental through Gawad Kalinga. In Canada, Joey plays a loving wife and a doting mother to two beautiful girls, ages 17 and 14. On the side, she teaches at a pre-school. "It’s a simple life," she said. "But I love it." *** We asked Joey how it is to be working anew with a former boyfriend. "Louie and I have remained good friends to date. We are both happily married now. He is married to a beautiful and good woman, Jojo. "Louie and I are happy for each other," Joey further stated. Joey revealed she is on remission after a bout of colon cancer. And she really looks good and appears at peace. Joey need not tell us that there’s a love story involving her and Louie but all that now is a thing of the past. http://www.malaya.com.ph/aug09/ente_1.htm

By: Bong De Leon CHECK IT OUT EX-SWEETHEARTS LAUGH AT THEIR PAST JOEY Albert is one singer whose songs linger. She has been married and leading a simple life in Canada with husband Ting Pacis and two daughters for the past 20 years, but her fans will be glad to know that she’s in town and will be doing a concert with no less than her ex-bf, composer-musical director Louie Ocampo.
Well, everything about their romance is water under the bridge now and they’re now good friends who could only reminisce their past and laugh about it. On August 3 and 4, they will be seen together again at the Music Museum, doing their hits like “Tell Me,” for the sake of Gawad Kalinga for which Joey is sharing her precious time and effort.
After the MM concert, they will tour the U.S and Canada sometime in November. The show will be written and directed by Freddie Santos and produced by Artist House of Sandra Chavez. People's Journal http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2007-07-25&sec=3&aid=25713
