4 out of 5 stars!
From the Powerbelter, to the Shining Diva, and even the 'new' Crystal
Voice of Asia, Sheryn Regis has already gone a long way in the music
industry. Now coined the "Modern Jukebox Queen" and even the "Queen of
Teleserye Theme Songs", Sheryn brings us a new album that showcases her
God-given talents like no other.
The Modern Jukebox Collection is different from Sheryn's first two
albums -- it tries to maintain a consistent theme all throughout.
Obviously, it emanates that 'jukebox' feel to make it more appealing to
the masses. I believe it may be successful in doing so.
The carrier single, "Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito", is a minimally altered
remake of the Leah Navarro original. From start to finish, the song is
nothing but jukebox. Fans of songs with that "rock guitar feel" will
truly appreciate this classic.
The next two revivals, Vina Morales' "Alam Mo Ba?" and Manilyn Reynes'
"Sayang na Sayang", are fresh remakes with a more modern twist.
Amazingly, "Sayang na Sayang" was so tastefully done, even those from
the younger generation may appreciate it.
"Bago Magbukas" is beautiful, calm, and romantic. Sheryn did a great job in this song.
"After All" is a bit of a let down. Although Sheryn rendered it well,
the placement of high notes in the song were a little inadequate, most
especially if you compare it to Linda Eder's lung-busting rendition.
Larry Hermoso's "Bakit Iniwan Mo?", Ricky Sanchez's "Ang Lahat Para
Sa'yo", and Vehnee Saturno's "'Di Na Ba Babalik Pa?" are great examples
of 'modern jukebox hits'. Sheryn's fans will fall in love with these
original tracks.
The remake of Joey Albert's "I Remember the Boy" is a little off the
album's theme, but still resembles a Pinoy classic. Sheryn's rendition
is soothing to the ears and relaxing to the soul.
Sheryn's own composition entitled "Pusong Lito" is impressive,
considering this is Sheryn's first ever composition to be part of her
album. Those who are confused with love may relate to this song well.
The theme song of Maria Flordeluna bearing the same title is a
reflection of Sheryn's belting prowess and vocal strengths. Avid
watchers of the upcoming teleserye will truly appreciate the song.
Overall, Sheryn's third album possesses noteworthy tracks and a
refreshing aura. It is an excellent piece to add to your collection!
