Martin Nievera Celebrates 23 Years Of Great Music At SM Live
    By Maxi-Media International
    September 01, 2005

    user posted image

Twenty-three years and still the Philippines’ Concert King is on top of his game. Since he first burst into national prominence in the early 80’s via his long-running TV show Penthouse Live with Pops Fernandez, the Hawaii raised singer has managed to change the face of the local industry not only with his music, but also by his wit, charm and humor that has endeared him to his fans for over two decades now. His public persona as much celebrated as his private life, Martin has indeed become a constant presence in the lives of those who have been touched by his music. Indeed, if there was such a thing as music royalty, Martin would certainly be on top of the list.

This year, Martin looks back on his twenty-three years in show business with an intimate concert series at the city’s newest venue SM Live. Kicking off Maxi-Media’s new programming of top caliber concerts called “On Centerstage”, Martin sets the tone for excellent entertainment in various SM supermalls in and around Metro Manila. On Centerstage at SM Live is a brand new concept in live entertainment, whereby one movie theater in each Major SM Supermall shall be converted into a multipurpose LIVE entertainment venue for concerts, musical theater and the like. MAXI-MEDIA will be the exclusive concert promoter for SM Live nationwide.

The SM LIVE Concert Series is envisioned to be a consistent programming of concerts featuring the biggest and brightest names in the recording and concert scene (local acts interspersed with select FOREIGN acts) to be staged on rotation in major SM Supermall Cinemas.

Intimate, engaging, nostalgic – these words best describe Martin’s new series at SM Live which he titled “I Sing For You” – obviously a tribute to his legions of fans who have been unwavering in their support of the Concert King. Expect Martin to take you on a musical journey through a 23-year, 25-album career that has taken him not only around the Philippines but also throughout the world. MAXI-MEDIA and SM CINEMA take pride in bringing the best entertainment in several communities in the south such as Cavite, Laguna, Las Piñas, Alabang, Pasay and Parañaque, with this special music ensemble of Mr. Martin Nievera.

Aside from this concert, Martin is busy promoting his latest album aptly titled “When Love Is Gone” under EMI Music Philippines. The album contains songs for the broken-hearted such as Hanggang Langit, Nasaan Ka Man, Minsan Lang, Naghihintay, Never Said Goodbye, Before You Said Goodbye, There’s No Easy Way, Let Me Be The One, Sorry Song, a duet with his soulful buddy Brian McKnight, Separate Lives, a duet with Zsa Zsa Padilla, I Don’t Want You to Go as another duet with Ima Castro, Barry Manilow’s Somewhere Down the Road, James Ingram’s Just Once, and the title cut. This album is the unlikely offshoot of his last CD outing Best Wishes, a wedding album that is made up of songs celebrating love.

Just like his previous albums, it will surely be a hit. The highlights of the album include a song by John Farnham, Please Don’t Ask Me, which is really a heartbreaking song. Another is a classic composition of Louie Ocampo, Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin and Kahit Isang Saglit. Then there is the first single release, titled Goodbye, another Ocampo song with Martin as collaborator, which she sang with Pops Fernandez.

“I Sing For You” Martin Nievera LIVE on Centerstage happens on September 10 at SM Southmall Cinema 3.
This event is made possible by media partners Philippine Star, Business World, Manila Standard, 91.5 Energy FM, 105.1 Crossover, 94.7 Mellow Touch, 923 Joey, and 97.9 Home Radio. Tickets are now available at all Ticketworld outlets in major National Bookstore branches telephone numbers 891-5610 or 891-9999 and Tower Records (in Makati and Alabang). For inquiries call Maxi-Media office (551-7777).

    Re: Martin Nievera (OT)

Martin na-miss ang concert ni Gary

    TATTLE
    Nel Alejandrino
    People's Tonight
SAYANG at wala si Martin Nievera (he's reportedly in Hollywood where
he just hosted The World Music Awards) to watch Gary Valenciano's
recent concert, Symphony of the Heart, at the Araneta Coliseum last
    Friday (Sept. 2).

He himself would have admitted that it is the best of Gary's
(numerous concerts) and, perhaps, one of the best, too, ever mounted
by a local singer. After all, it's not every singer who gets the
chance to have, no less than, the San Miguel PhilHarmonic Orchestra
(na pawang bago at expensive ang mga musical instruments)
accompanying him and with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab conducting.

No wonder that Regine Velasquez reportedly volunteered to do a number
with Gary. They sung together, The Prayer. It was just beautiful.

    * * *

But Gary's concert did not start perfectly well. Ang kasama naming si
Salve A., entertainment editor ng PM (Pang-Masa) at assistant
entertainment editor ng Pilipino Star Ngayon (PSN) kept commenting
that Gary should be told to revise na his repertoire. Kung sabagay,
after his opening number, Kailangan Kita (theme song of the Aga
Muhlach-Claudine Barretto movie, Kailangan Kita), his other songs
were so-so. I even forgot their titles, would you believe?

The appearance of new concert artist Erik Santos and Sheryn Regis
(who looked like a bride in her all-white gown, this from Salve A
    again) proved of no help.

In any case, I would advise these young neophyte (na singers) to
avoid singing an original song with the singer who popularized it,
dahil tiyak mabubukong they cannot yet hold a candle with him or her.

    * * *

The concert started to gain momentum when Gary shared a dance number
with son, Gabriel, who is as gifted dancer as his father. But the boy
should be advised to create his own style (of dancing), para di
masabing he's just his Dad's clone.

In any case, from then on, there was no turning back for Gary. Lahat
na ng kanyang numbers ay pinakawalan ay pinalakpakan ng masigabo ng
audience. Lalo't the popular ones, including his latest single, Ikaw
Lamang (theme song of the movie, Dubai, starring Aga and Claudine).

When Gary sung Sana Maulit Muli (another title of a movie starring
Aga and Lea Salonga), we had goose pimples (and I guess everyone else
in the audience). It was Gary himself accompany himself at the piano
and he was assisted by the SMPHO. Ang galing!

He also tried conducting the orchestra, with Maestro Ryan's
blessings. It was a riot as he did some comedy acts, too. To the
    pleasant surprise of the audience.

A thunderous applause reverberated when his elder son, Paolo,
surfaced onstage and did some alternative numbers with him. My, they
    are a team to watch.

In an interview, however, Gary revealed it's his daughter, Kiana, 13,
who's really the singer in the family. Aside from him, of course, and
wife Angeli (nee Pangilinan), who was once a member of the popular
    group, Music and Magic.

But the tour de force of the concert was when Gary sung Freddie
Aguilar's Anak, in all its international version, Italian, Japanese,
Portuguese and English. And in Tagalog, too.

This was when the audience stood up to pay him an homage.

I told myself I'll not forgive Gary if in the entire concert he would
not sing, How Did You Know (theme song of another Aga movie, All My
Life, with Kristine Hermosa). When he did, nakumpleto talaga ang
    evening ko.

Thank you, Gary, for a truly enchanted evening.

    * * *

Sidelights (of Gary's concert): The look of love was all over the
faces of Andeng Bautista, younger sister of Senator Bong Revilla, and
her fiancé, Junjun Ynares, son of Rizal Governor Ito Ynares, as they
watched the concert. They were with good friend, popular couturier-
    designer Paul Cabral.

In the audience were some of the top people of ABS-CBN, such as Deo
Endrinal, Chit Guerrero, Leah Salterio and Joanna Santos. Gary also
personally thanked Star Records big boss, Annabelle Regalado.

Among Gary's fellow co-hosts of ASAP who were at the concert and
whose names he kept mentioning were Jerome Sala, Kuh Ledesma and
    Piolo Pascual.

KAPUWA raw masugid na manliligaw ni Nikki Gil, commercial model-turned-singer and now a mainstay of ASAP '05, ABS-CBN's weekly noontime show, ang dalawang bagets na anak nina Martin Nievera at Gary Valenciano na sina Robin at Gabriel, respectively.

Aba, ang haba rin naman ng buhok nitong si Nikki.

Like Nikki, Robin and Gabriel are promising entertainers. Madalas nang napi-feature si Robin sa mga concert ng kanyang ama at mommy din na si Pops Fernandez as a guitarist.

Si Gabriel naman ay hinangaan sa kanyang dance number sa katatapos na concert ng kanyang ama sa Araneta Coliseum, Symphony of the Heart.

Lucky you, Nikki. Let's drink to that!

Nikki was discovered for showbiz via a tv commercial for a softdrink brand.

Martin Nievera in ‘One: The World Tour’ concert at the Music Museum

Martin Nievera sang with Faith Cuneta last night when he guested in "One: The World Tour," a concert that topbilled Faith and Juaquin Garcia at the Music Museum.

Friends, supporters and admirers of the chanteuse trooped to the venue despite the heavy rains.

Faith, wowed audiences with her powerful presence and highly energized performance. She showed all and sundry that she is not only blessed with a beautiful voice but the grace of a dancer as well.

"One" opened with the number "Bailamos"/ "Bring Me To Life" where Faith and Joaquin showed beautiful harmony as their voices blended together. Then Faith segued to her solo, "Love Me Again" and "Pangarap Na Bituin," where she made her own version of the Sharon Cuneta original.

Juaquin, who was once part of the group Wiseguys, sang a cover version of "Leaving Yesterday Behind" instilling a romantic feeling that evening to every girl and woman present in the crowd.

Showing their dancing feet, Faith and Juaquin went on to do a dance number with "Rock DJ" and a Disco Retro Medley. More duet numbers were rendered – "Please Don’t Ask Me," "Love Duets Medley"and "Inside Your Heaven" cementing their "oneness" as performers.

Richard Gomez sent the energy a notch higher the moment he appeared on stage. He was a big surprise that evening as he sang like a pro. Goma and Faith sang "Time of My Life" and the audience definitely had the time of their life with Goma’s performance. Other numbers from him that made the audience go wild were "All My Life," "Tell Me" and "It’s Just A Fantasy."

Faith also paid tribute to her idols, Lani Misalucha, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kuh Ledesma, among others in the "Fan Diva Medley" number. Also part of the repertoire were "Promise Me," "Kahit Isang Saglit," "One In A Million," and "Pag-Ibig Ko’y Pansinin."

"One: The World Tour" concert is produced by JLF Productions with Rowell Santiago as director from a script by Noel Ferrer. Louie Ocampo is musical director. Other performances are scheduled today, Sept. 23, and on Sept. 24.

MARTIN NIEVERA KICKS OFF LONGEST EVER US/CANADA TOUR

user posted image user posted image

Twenty-three years and still the Philippines' Concert King is on top of his game. Since he first burst into the entertainment scene back home in the early 80's via his long-running TV show Penthouse Live with Pops Fernandez, the Hawaii raised singer has managed to change the face of the local music industry not only with his music, but also by his wit, charm and humor that has endeared him to his fans for over two decades now. His public persona as much celebrated as his private life, Martin has indeed become a constant presence in the lives of those who have been touched by his music. Indeed, if there was such a thing as music royalty, Martin would certainly be on top of the list.

It has been a 23-year, 25-album career that has not only taken him around the Philippines but also throughout many parts of the world. His journey has not been without its share of intrigues and personal drama, including the break-up of his high profile and most admired marriage with Pops. But instead of breaking the man, it has only made Martin, the superstar more human and therefore more accessible and more endearing. Martin has had the good luck of being able to spring back from difficult times to emerge as an even stronger performer and more complete artist. Many have seen this "talkative" young man metamorphose into a sensitive and mature performer who will never compromise his artistry for anything else.

As part of his anniversary celebration, Martin and his long-time collaborators, Maxi-Media USA will embark on an extensive tour of the US and Canada beginning in October. What makes this tour unique is Martin's desire to perform for more Filipinos in the USA including those in cities and territories that are not included in the usual US tour circuit. Jeff Cal, Maxi-Media USA EVP says, "Martin has been visiting the major cities almost every year, be it alone or with another performer. This time around he wishes to reach more Filipinos in more cities across the US and Canada, especially in those places where he has never performed before."

The theaters will be smaller than his usual arenas and big venues but the concerts will certainly be more intimate and more face-to-face. That is the way the producers and Martin have conceptualized these concerts to be --- reminiscent of Martin's long-running concert series in Onstage Makati. "Martin's concert series in the 1000-seater venue ran for an unprecedented 72 nights breaking any existing records by a solo performer. It was a personal show and he was interacting with his audience like they were his long lost friends. He was making fun of himself, laughing at them and laughing with them. And this spelled magic", Jeff Cal recalls.

Martin hopes to recreate this magic with his Fil-Am fans as he goes around the US and Canada in his 2005 concert tour entitled "I SING FOR YOU" -- obviously a tribute to his legions of fans in the US who have been unwavering in their support of the Concert King. "We want to bring Martin to new areas and expand his reach as a performer", Cal adds, "hopefully more people are touched by his music and his artistry by way of these tour." Maxi-Media has lined up a total of 23 shows in 23 cities which will unfold in a period of about six months and Martin is excited and raring to go.

His repertoire will cover 23 years of Martin's greatest hits from way back in the 80's when he started to current hits from his more recent recordings. Martin's signature hits such as "Be My Lady," "Each Day With You," "Never Say Goodbye," "Say That You Love Me," "Holiday," "Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin," "You Are My Song," "Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin," "Kahit Isang Saglit," "Forever," "The Promise" and many more. He will also be singing cover versions of songs that have been identified with him including hits by Kenny Loggins, Brian McKnight, Michael Buble' and some other personal favorites of his.

The first phase of the tour which will kick off in October will cover the following US cities: Seattle, WA; Tampa, FL; Jacksonville, FL; Washington, DC and Virginia Beach, VA. Martin will also be in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. Martin will then return to the Philippines to fulfill his other commitments there before coming back to resume his tour.

"Martin Nievera: I Sing For You" will be coming to Seattle, WA on October 1 @ the Pantages Theater; Tampa, FL on October 7 @ TBPAC Louise Lykes Ferguson Hall; Jacksonville, FL on October 8 @ The Florida Theatre; Washington, DC on October 14 @ the Lisner Auditorium, The George Washington University; Virginia Beach on October 15 @ the Harrison Opera House; Toronto, ON on Oct. 21 @ The John Bassett Theatre; and Vancouver, BC on Oct. 23 @ The Croatian Cultural Centre. Tickets are popularly priced at $38, 48, 68 with limited prime seats at $88. For the US shows tickets are available through TICKETMASTER and the respective outlets of each city or you may call Maxi-Media USA at (818) 549.9955 for ticket reservations. For the Canada shows tickets are available through TICKETMASTER.CA and the respective outlets of each city or you may call Maxi-Media Canada at (604) 430.8985 for ticket reservations.

Martin Nievera Kicks Off Extensive 23-City Tour Of North America

Despite the influx of new talents and musical trends, MARTIN NIEVERA still reigns in the Philippine entertainment industry. His endless string of singing engagements, and sold out shows and albums underline his status as the Concert King. No doubt, he remains the country's premier balladeer. The words 'hardworking' and 'prolific' also best describe the man who is celebrating his 23rd year in the music industry via a concert tour of USA and Canada.

Twenty-three years and still the Philippines’ Concert King is on top of his game. Being a successful singer for 23 years is a quite achievement in this age and industry of fleeting favorites. However, this comes as no surprise for someone who is well known and respected for possessing an undisputed work ethic and talent.

Since he first burst into the entertainment scene back home in the early 80’s via his long-running TV show Penthouse Live with Pops Fernandez, the Hawaii raised singer has managed to change the face of the local music industry not only with his music, but also by his wit, charm and humor that has endeared him to his fans for over two decades now. As part of his anniversary celebration, Martin and his long-time collaborators, Maxi-Media USA will embark on his first leg of an extensive 23-city tour of the US and Canada beginning in October. What makes this tour unique is Martin’s desire to perform for more Filipinos in the USA including those in cities and territories that are not included in the usual US tour circuit.

The theaters will be more intimate than his usual arenas and big venues but the concerts will certainly be more casual and more face-to-face. That is the way the producers and Martin have conceptualized these concerts to be --- reminiscent of Martin’s long-running concert series in Onstage Makati. Martin’s concert series in the 1000-seater venue in Makati ran for an unprecedented 72 nights breaking any existing records by a solo performer. It was a personal show and he was interacting with his audience like they were his long lost friends.

Martin hopes to recreate this magic with his Fil-Am fans as he goes around the US and Canada in his 2005 concert tour entitled “I SING FOR YOU” -- obviously a tribute to his legions of fans in the US who have been unwavering in their support of the Concert King. Expect Martin to take you on a musical journey through a 23-year, 25-album career that has taken him in different parts of the world.
His repertoire will cover 23 years of Martin’s greatest hits from way back in the 80’s to current hits such as “Be My Lady”,“Each Day With You”, “Never Say Goodbye”, “Say That You LovMe”,“Holiday”,”Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin”, “You Are My Song”,“Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin”, “Kahit Isang Saglit”, “Forever”, “The Promise” and many more.

The first phase of the US tour which will kick off in October will cover the following cities: Pantages Theatre in Seattle, WA on October 1; Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center Louise Lykes Ferguson Hall in Tampa, Florida on October 7; The Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida on October 8; Lisner Auditorium in Washington DC on October 14; and Harrison Opera House in Virginia Beach, VA on October 15.

This concert tour is also made possible in cooperation with The Filipino Channel (TFC) and in part by Filipino-American Herald. Tickets are popularly priced at $38, $48, $68 with limited prime seats at $88. You can get your tickets through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).
